The Call
Each catechist/volunteer is responding to a call in their heart. This call is from God and is supported by the Emmaus community.
The Commitment
In answering the call, a catechist becomes a “witness to the faith by sharing his/her faith commitment through word, experience, prayer, and liturgy.”
The Mission
The mission of Emmaus Catholic Parish in faith formation is rooted philosophically in Scripture, Christ is the vine and we are the branches; without Christ we are nothing. We will meet everyone on their walk of faith, and will journey with them, mentoring and instructing, to meet Christ in the Eucharist.
The Journey
Recognizing that parents are the first teachers of their children in the faith, we at Emmaus Catholic Parish work toward the above mission through the program of religious education for CCE and Youth. These programs offer experiential instruction to children beginning at age 4, and continue in age-appropriate format sequentially through high school.
Requirements/Expectations for Volunteers
In making a commitment, the catechist/volunteer becomes responsible for the following:
Must be an active practicing Catholic
Must be a member of Emmaus Catholic Parish
Must be willing to consent to criminal background check
Works in conjunction with the Emmaus Religious Education staff regarding parent/volunteer guidelines
Must become aware of/re-familiarized with Church teachings and teach only approved authentic church doctrine
Takes advantage of class sessions and any other teacher meetings provided by the parish as required by the diocese

Bishop Joe Vasquez and the Austin Diocese support the local faith community in its role of providing ongoing formation through the catechist formation certification process. All catechists in the diocese are invited to be part of this continuing process.
