What is the theme of the program?
JustFaith is based on Scripture and the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church. It goes deep into Catholic Social Teaching. It leads participants toward greater knowledge of the root causes of poverty and a call to greater compassion.
How is this done?
Each meeting begins and ends with prayer. The meetings also include time for dialogue about the readings for the week, DVDs watched together, guest speakers, and time for reflection.
How long is the JustFaith program?
It is 24 weeks, beginning in mid-October 2016, broken into 4 phases of 6 six weeks (breaks for all holidays).
When does it meet?
Meetings will be evenings, approximately 6:30 – 9 PM—the exact day of the week has not been set.
Are there retreats also?
Yes, there is an opening retreat and a closing retreat. They are held on a Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. The retreats are held either at Emmaus or off-site. Options will be discussed during the year.
Are there any other special events?
Yes, there are several immersion experiences which are done around Austin. These are encounters with people living in poverty. The intention is to help us move from the head to the heart. They are done on Saturdays.
How much reading is involved?
Typically, 2-3 hours per week.
Is there anything else I should know?
Emmaus has hosted this program in the recent past. There are several JustFaith grads in our parish. Some JustFaith grads participated in the program at Emmaus while others participated in neighboring Austin parishes. Ask one of them about their experiences with the program.
